Re: Proposal to Permanently Increase Vista Unified School District (VUSD) Class Sizes = DISSERVICE TO OUR STUDENTS & Higher Incarceration Rates
Dear Honorable VUSD School Board Members:
Your proposal to permanently increase the already over-sized classes, in our District, would be a tremendous disservice to our students. The legacy of your tenure on the Board would be a marked turning-point of rapid decline in both our students’ performances, and high school graduation rates.
Education is an INVESTMENT in our society’s FUTURE – and unfortunately it is SHORT-SIGHTED thinkers who do not understand this. The educational systems in other industrialized (and long-term and forward thinking) nations, of Europe & Asia, “get it”, as should you.
KNOWLEDGE is Power. So, please take a moment, to click this link (below), and educate yourself about a study commissioned by the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, and other studies, from additional reputable and respected sources. …”After controlling for student background, the only objective factor that was found to be
correlated with higher student success was class size, not school size, not teacher
qualifications, nor any other variable that the researchers could identify. What was even
more striking is that these achievement gains were more strongly linked to smaller
classes in the upper rather than the lower grades.”…

…”In an analysis of more than 200 school districts, researcher Harold Wenglinsky of the
Educational Testing Service concluded that for eighth graders, smaller classes were
associated with higher rates of achievement in math, as well as a much improved “school
social environment”, as measured by factors such as higher attendance and lower rates of school vandalism.”…

…”A national survey found that 75% of high school dropouts in the United States said that providing smaller classes with more individualized attention would have improved their likelihood of graduating from high school”…
YOU, who currently sit on the VUSD Board, will be responsible for increased High School Dropout rates, which is not just a number – but is…our future! “The Vista Unified School District had a grades 9-12 dropout rate of 23% in 2007. You are tasked with significantly LOWERING this number – closing the gap – not igniting it, to increase exponentially. Ours’ is ALREADY exponentially higher than the nationwide average. A decision, by the Board to INCREASE class sizes, would quickly exacerbate this PROBLEM – therefore it is NOT an acceptable option.
Higher dropout rates would lead to an increase in INCARCERATION RATES.
The larger classes will also inherently lead to increased discipline problems, and will result in our teachers being put in the position of RIOT control.

Be responsible for making the VUSD newsworthy on positive merits; and not the negative ones which have found us national publicity*, over the past couple of decades.
PLEASE work as a team on BEHALF of your school district, and YOUR students, to exceed our expectations. The Districts’ achievement and success will come from you, our Board Members, thinking ‘outside the box’ to finesse this complex issue – for a positive outcome.
Thank you for your consideration, and we hope that you make an EDUCATED decision, to NOT INCREASE our already OVER-BURDENED (34-38+) CLASS SIZES.

New Hosting Company for PeaceLoveAndShopping.com
We are in the process of changing the web hosting company for our site - and we are GIDDY with EXCITEMENT.
As our 'old' Hosting Co., "Host Department", HAS DONE HORRIBLE THINGS TO OUR SITE, over the past 3 years. For example, when the hosting company got hacked/ sabotaged - and we had NO Site, NO SERVICE at all for a few WEEKS ! Argh ! And currently, some of our (product) photos that we uploaded years ago - have reverted (beyond our control) to the original generic default pics - which have NOTHING TO do with PeaceLoveAndShopping.com

We will undertake re-creating our Site anew !

A Great Way to Save Money - Combine n' share Governors!
So, I was thinking today of a great way to save money.
Combine n' share Governors.
Do the Carolinas really need a Governer EACH?
Out west, we just refer to them as 'The Carolinas'...we don't know the difference between North and South. Same for the Dakotas. North & South, they too could share. How many people (constituents) could their be up there in the Dakotas, combined - anyway? Like, maybe 200? Also, the Virginias -- they don't need a Governor each either -- I mean, "West" Virginia doesn't need it's only 'place'?! It's like, do we have a Governor for East California?
Double-up some of those same-name states, and SAVE A BUNDLE on pay'n for extra Governors!
More money saving ideas...are in the pipeline, I'm sure...

JIM GIBSON of the Vista Unified School Board (VUSD) has GOT to FINALLY go! Nationwide Embarrassment, thanks to Gibson.
Jim Gibson, VUSD School Board Member - Make him go away - before he causes additional NATIONWIDE EMBARRASSMENT!
We'd been following this story on our local newspaper's website NCTimes.com (North County Times online edition). But, were surprised that it had received nationwide coverage (thanks to friend, Cora, for sending us the TMZ link below).
ONCE AGAIN a VUSD (Vista Unified School District) School Board Member (and former Board President), draws EMBARRASSING NATIONWIDE attention, to our School District and Community.
In this case, it's JIM GIBSON, who previously also wanted the Board to SUPPORT (CA) Prop 8, like that had anything to do w/ the BUSINESS of the School Board.
Can we get Jim a dunce cap, and sit him in the corner (for the balance of his term)... please ? And since he's an ongoing BOOB...let's also get him some breast implants, ala Carrie Prejean !
When I spoke a couple of months back at a VUSD Board Meeting, I specifically welcomed the two NEW (fresh?) Board Members...and made mention that HOPEFULLY our 'new' Board would make the RIGHT decisions, so we could AVOID (curtail) NATIONWIDE HUMILIATION... as has occurred thanks to the previous Board Members - for the past 12-15+ yrs.
WE almost got rid of him, during the last election. He was running for a City of Oceanside Council Seat...but alas he LOST (they didn't want him either)...and we were STUCK with him, on our School Board.

Om, or Aum, is a very simple chant with a complex meaning. Often chanted three times at the start and finish of a yoga session, om is the whole universe coalesced into a single sound and represents the union of mind, body, and spirit that is at the heart of yoga. When chanted, the sound of om is actually three syllables - a, u, and m.

It would appear as though the VUSD Board, is trying to pull another ‘fast one’. Intentionally keeping this potentially HORRIFIC NEWS on the ‘down low’. As parents, the news has only begun to spread, today!
At tomorrow’s VUSD Board Meeting (Thursday, 2/26 7:30 p.m., at Foothill-Oak Elementary, Vista), Agenda Item #12 C, is a purposely ambiguous agenda item.
It states simply (and vaguely):
Approve Resolution #09-51 to Reduce and Eliminate Certain Certificated Programs and Services for the 2009-2010 School Year [68 ]
What it doesn’t specifically say are their intentions to ELIMINATE THE MAGNET SCHOOL PROGRAM from both Casita Center for Math Science & Technology; and VAPA, the magnet school for the Visual and Performing Arts. Eliminate these INCREDIBLE programs, by laying off ALL OF THE LAB TEACHERS, for the next school year (‘09-’10). The Magnet schools would cease to exist as such.
These TERRIFIC lab programs, grow enthusiasm from their Students. The kids look FORWARD to ‘lab day’, each week. It is their FAVORITE, by far. The lab teachers make learning about science, math and technology SO FUN…that the kids don’t even realize, they’re learning!
This is a shocking misstep on behalf of the Board. We hope you are able to cover the story, so that the Board’s ‘misdoings’ will be transparent to Parents, Students and the public.
