Dear Honorable VUSD School Board Members:

Your proposal to permanently increase the already over-sized classes, in our District, would be a tremendous disservice to our students. The legacy of your tenure on the Board would be a marked turning-point of rapid decline in both our students’ performances, and high school graduation rates.

Education is an INVESTMENT in our society’s FUTURE – and unfortunately it is SHORT-SIGHTED thinkers who do not understand this. The educational systems in other industrialized (and long-term and forward thinking) nations, of Europe & Asia, “get it”, as should you.

KNOWLEDGE is Power. So, please take a moment, to click this link (below), and educate yourself about a study commissioned by the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, and other studies, from additional reputable and respected sources. …”After controlling for student background, the only objective factor that was found to be
correlated with higher student success was class size, not school size, not teacher
qualifications, nor any other variable that the researchers could identify. What was even
more striking is that these achievement gains were more strongly linked to smaller
classes in the upper rather than the lower grades.”…

and

…”In an analysis of more than 200 school districts, researcher Harold Wenglinsky of the
Educational Testing Service concluded that for eighth graders, smaller classes were
associated with higher rates of achievement in math, as well as a much improved “school
social environment”, as measured by factors such as higher attendance and lower rates of school vandalism.”…

and

…”A national survey found that 75% of high school dropouts in the United States said that providing smaller classes with more individualized attention would have improved their likelihood of graduating from high school”…

YOU, who currently sit on the VUSD Board, will be responsible for increased High School Dropout rates, which is not just a number – but is…our future! “The Vista Unified School District had a grades 9-12 dropout rate of 23% in 2007. The national grades 9-12 dropout rate in 2007 was 4.4%.” Source: http://www.education.com/schoolfinder/us/california/district/vista-unified-school-district/#learn-more / NCES. You are tasked with significantly LOWERING this number – closing the gap – not igniting it, to increase exponentially. Ours’ is ALREADY exponentially higher than the nationwide average. A decision, by the Board to INCREASE class sizes, would quickly exacerbate this PROBLEM – therefore it is NOT an acceptable option.

Higher dropout rates would lead to an increase in INCARCERATION RATES.

The larger classes will also inherently lead to increased discipline problems, and will result in our teachers being put in the position of RIOT control.

Be responsible for making the VUSD newsworthy on positive merits; and not the negative ones which have found us national publicity*, over the past couple of decades.

PLEASE work as a team on BEHALF of your school district, and YOUR students, to exceed our expectations. The Districts’ achievement and success will come from you, our Board Members, thinking ‘outside the box’ to finesse this complex issue – for a positive outcome.

Thank you for your consideration, and we hope that you make an EDUCATED decision, to NOT INCREASE our already OVER-BURDENED (34-38+) CLASS SIZES.

We are in the process of changing the web hosting company for our site - and we are GIDDY with EXCITEMENT.

As our 'old' Hosting Co., "Host Department", HAS DONE HORRIBLE THINGS TO OUR SITE, over the past 3 years. For example, when the hosting company got hacked/ sabotaged - and we had NO Site, NO SERVICE at all for a few WEEKS ! Argh ! And currently, some of our (product) photos that we uploaded years ago - have reverted (beyond our control) to the original generic default pics - which have NOTHING TO do with PeaceLoveAndShopping.com

So, I was thinking today of a great way to save money.

Combine n' share Governors.

Do the Carolinas really need a Governer EACH?

Out west, we just refer to them as 'The Carolinas'...we don't know the difference between North and South. Same for the Dakotas. North & South, they too could share. How many people (constituents) could their be up there in the Dakotas, combined - anyway? Like, maybe 200? Also, the Virginias -- they don't need a Governor each either -- I mean, "West" Virginia doesn't need it's only 'place'?! It's like, do we have a Governor for East California?

Double-up some of those same-name states, and SAVE A BUNDLE on pay'n for extra Governors!

Jim Gibson, VUSD School Board Member - Make him go away - before he causes additional NATIONWIDE EMBARRASSMENT!

We'd been following this story on our local newspaper's website NCTimes.com (North County Times online edition). But, were surprised that it had received nationwide coverage (thanks to friend, Cora, for sending us the TMZ link below).

ONCE AGAIN a VUSD (Vista Unified School District) School Board Member (and former Board President), draws EMBARRASSING NATIONWIDE attention, to our School District and Community.

In this case, it's JIM GIBSON, who previously also wanted the Board to SUPPORT (CA) Prop 8, like that had anything to do w/ the BUSINESS of the School Board.

Can we get Jim a dunce cap, and sit him in the corner (for the balance of his term)... please ? And since he's an ongoing BOOB...let's also get him some breast implants, ala Carrie Prejean !

When I spoke a couple of months back at a VUSD Board Meeting, I specifically welcomed the two NEW (fresh?) Board Members...and made mention that HOPEFULLY our 'new' Board would make the RIGHT decisions, so we could AVOID (curtail) NATIONWIDE HUMILIATION... as has occurred thanks to the previous Board Members - for the past 12-15+ yrs.

WE almost got rid of him, during the last election. He was running for a City of Oceanside Council Seat...but alas he LOST (they didn't want him either)...and we were STUCK with him, on our School Board.

You’ve seen this symbol on our site…but what does it mean?
Om, or Aum, is a very simple chant with a complex meaning. Often chanted three times at the start and finish of a yoga session, om is the whole universe coalesced into a single sound and represents the union of mind, body, and spirit that is at the heart of yoga. When chanted, the sound of om is actually three syllables - a, u, and m.

RE: VUSD Board Meeting 2/26 – Hope You Can Attend – To Cover This Story!

Dear :

It would appear as though the VUSD Board, is trying to pull another ‘fast one’. Intentionally keeping this potentially HORRIFIC NEWS on the ‘down low’. As parents, the news has only begun to spread, today!

At tomorrow’s VUSD Board Meeting (Thursday, 2/26 7:30 p.m., at Foothill-Oak Elementary, Vista), Agenda Item #12 C, is a purposely ambiguous agenda item.

It states simply (and vaguely):

Approve Resolution #09-51 to Reduce and Eliminate Certain Certificated Programs and Services for the 2009-2010 School Year [68 ]

What it doesn’t specifically say are their intentions to ELIMINATE THE MAGNET SCHOOL PROGRAM from both Casita Center for Math Science & Technology; and VAPA, the magnet school for the Visual and Performing Arts. Eliminate these INCREDIBLE programs, by laying off ALL OF THE LAB TEACHERS, for the next school year (‘09-’10). The Magnet schools would cease to exist as such.

These TERRIFIC lab programs, grow enthusiasm from their Students. The kids look FORWARD to ‘lab day’, each week. It is their FAVORITE, by far. The lab teachers make learning about science, math and technology SO FUN…that the kids don’t even realize, they’re learning!

This is a shocking misstep on behalf of the Board. We hope you are able to cover the story, so that the Board’s ‘misdoings’ will be transparent to Parents, Students and the public.

Positivism As We Cross the Threshold into a New Year.

I’ve always loved the humorous saying, “When life hands you lemons, smile politely…and give them back – when life isn’t looking”.
People have asked me, “Are you always so happy?”; or told me, “You’re never a bitch” (why thank you, I think?!).
Levity, that’s the answer. My answer. For me, it’s instinctual, the way I carry myself through my day. A little humor goes a long way. A lot of humor goes even further. Finding the humor in life, as we go throughout our day…makes the journey easier (and more fun!).
Life is a roller coaster, it’s true. Wouldn’t it be boring if everything went smoothly? When we get hung up by our own stressors…we must be mindful not to indulge in a ‘pitty party’. Stop, and realize that everyone around us has their own ‘crosses to bear’, in the ‘stress department’, we are not alone. Does that make it any easier for us? No, but we persevere though our own ‘challenges’ and can both gain and give strength and comfort to those close to us, as they tackle their own ‘challenges’.
Sometimes I look around, in a crowd, in a store or in a car -- and am struck by the grumpy faces looking back at me. It’s sad really. Smiling, happiness and joy isn’t that much (extra) work. And it beats rolling around in a swamp of funk (that stinks!).
Realist. Yes, optimists and pessimists are but extremes…the shades of gray in between are forms of realism. I ‘get’ being a realist. But, you can’t let all of the world’s problems, big and small, take you down. You can only do so much, as one person. Yes, empathy is the right thing to have. But understand that many of the world’s problems are simply beyond your control, and let go. Let go of the stress, and anguish you’re feeling. Know too, that things will get better.
These are indeed challenging times, in which we live…but, I’m up for the challenge…let’s be challenged together!
And of course, looking at the big picture…you reap what you sow. The goodness and positivism that you contribute to your world, will come back to you in spades.

So, if you’re one of the many homes in my neighborhood w/ “Yes on 8” signs (the churches must be handing them out en masse (and the stickers too))… you may find my car parked out front of yours’, for several hours at a time. Today I parked here (pls see below) for 4hrs+ (note Yes on 8 sign in background). Didn’t hurt that it was a somewhat busy corner.

Dr. Fenton delivered our second child, and Dr. Brody was also present during the labor.

This CLOSE-MINDED mentality is UNACCEPTABLE. Don't DISCRIMINATE !

They probably (unknowingly) assist plenty of 'unfit' (straight) parents...who may be 'married'... and have the MONEY...to pay them. Being 'straight' (and married) is not the only criteria for a GOOD & LOVING parent.

These doctors should use their 'beliefs' and efforts / energies, instead to curtail:

1. unwanted pregnancies (and children), and
2. unfit parents

I attended and spoke at Thurs night's meeting (4/3/08) of the Vista Unified School District Board. Overall, it was DISGUSTING.

Comments made toward the end of the meeting by Board Members LILLY & HUBBARD, were downright belligerent.

There is a great AND UNACCEPTABLE divide, between what the Parents, Teachers and Administrators are asking for - and DESERVE -- for the sake of our kids... and what this lousy Board is doing (or not doing, as the case may be).

How could they not know from the onset of the Dual Magnet HS Project - that construction costs ARE ALWAYS HIGHER than projected (usu 2x)? Why did they not PAD the budget for the project accordingly - and for unforeseen (yet, to be expected) Environmental Impact and CalTrans type expenses?

WHAT HAPPENED to the dual Magnet H.S. opening this August ('08) ? Idiots ???
Instead they're going to have the "LET'S PRETEND" plan... sort of like having an Imaginary Friend..."you save my spot", okay - and SOMEDAY, maybe (???) we'll open the new H.S.
Will the new (Dual Magnet H.S.) Staff (Principal and Teachers) have to play along w/ this charade -- playing dress-up?

THE VUSD Board should stand in the endless bathroom lines at the High SCHOOLS., and try 'holding it' all day - like they expect VUSD students to do EVERY DAY. Or better yet -- they should try using the Restrooms at Madison (one of our newest schools!?). Where we heard testimony last night from the District's Plumber - that among other things - restrooms have (a lovely cycle of) SEWAGE GASSES being emitted, and flowing up thru the ventilation above.
With VMMS (Vista Magnet Middle)...HELLO BOARD (anyone home?)..."If it ain't broke...don't fix it"... A new school with a TREMENDOUS program - of MOTIVATED students - who are THRIVING.

The BOARD is trying EVERYTHING to thwart their efforts and successes... and then to ADD INSULT TO INJURY the board get's NASTY about it... with "The Sky is Falling" remarks...and noting that the school could house all kinds of other TRANSIENTS... let's not stop w/ The City of Vista's Engineering Dept... let's ADD to the prison-like setting by ADDING MORE FENCING (Do the Board Members have ties or investments with fencing companies, one wonders???).... to cage up, and sub-divide the campus even-more. Instead, of allowing a SUCCESSFUL NEW PROGRAM TO BLOSSOM AND PROGRESS as was originally planned.

We also STRONGLY support the ORIGINAL plan (they're already trying to ruin a good thing - even before it's off the ground) of the 4x4 schedule for Mission Vista Dual Magnet H.S., should it ever open ?!

The follies of Vista's failures are never-ending, UNACCEPTABLE and downright embarrassing.

LET'S DUMP THE (Current VUSD) SCHOOL BOARD - ASAP !

Wal-Mart Sucks ... We don't call it Fascist-Mart for nothing

Ok, so our first mistake was going to Wal-Mart. Our second, was going to TWO in one evening !

Wal-Mart #1, on Jefferson & Vista Way in Oceanside, had children running amuck, store-wide!

In the end we requested a manager...got some sort of managers...one had on NO ID /name tag. Asked that they make an announcement in English and in Spanish - requesting that customers KEEP THEIR CHILDREN WITH THEM while shopping (at all times)... one wasn't 'even sure if they could do that' ?! So, who knows if they did or didn't, after we left.

We saw big kids (10-12) running at full speed -- for a long period of time - playing 'chase' or tag or ? through large areas of the store.

A small child, maybe 2, with his little face pushed up against the glass of the INSIDE of a REFRIGERATED CASE (safe and hygenic!).

A child of about 3 years old.... 'shopping', playing with toys in a toy aisle...alone !

This isn't safe for the children or their customers. Is it the Store's fault that their customers have NO REGARD for the safety of their own children, or others' ? Partially. They need to be vigilent to make announcements, and or 'patrol' if necessary, to keep their customers safe. And shopping experience somewhat pleasant. As horrible as it is, anyway.

At Fascist-Mart #2... Marron Road, Oceanside, CA

We attempted to spend more money - give more money to this corporate giant (in some towns a monopoly)... And "Kari" (we think that was her name?) at the customer service desk was RUDE. When we told her she was rude, she had NO IDEA she was rude. AND THEN when we called her on it... told us WE WERE BEING RUDE.

It's always a good idea (!??!), to tell your customers, who are about to add to your store's revenue, that THEY'RE being rude ?! Great job, Kari!?

We brought an exchange and purchase to the 'customer service' (yeah right) desk... we told Kari that we had to go to the car, to get the exchange item and receipt (just purchased at Wally #1 a few mins earlier, see above) -- she clapped her hands and in a tut-tut fashion... told us to hurry because they (customer service) was closing. OH, how high can I jump for you ? How fast can I run for you ? to have the privelege of spending and additional $30 at your awful store... and thus give you a chance at a paycheck ?

Just a couple of more reasons why Wal-Mart Sucks !

How? By taking two pet guinea pigs off the hands of a married couple of active duty marines --- being deployed to Iraq (very soon!).

Even Guinea Pigs are affected by the actions of Bush and his cronies !

May we bring home our Troups, sooner than later !

When one door closes (his Presidential race in 2000), another one opens... his opportunity to enlighten the world about the significant affects of climate change.

Now if we could only turn OUR nation around, from an oil $ hungry and oil $ driven economy to an enviornmentally concious one !

Hybrid cars should NOT cost MORE than their gas guzzling counterparts. We should receive a BREAK $ for purchasing, owning and driving one!

Alternative fuel options should receive more $ for R&D and be put into practical use.

Solar panels and other alternate energy options, such as wind turbines, should become the norm, and and affordable option for all.

The sun, the wind, hydropower... it's all there...waiting to be harnessed and used as power sources.
